2018 seems to be a good year for the filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali as Censor clears Padmavati finally! Bhansali's film "Padmavati" was embroiled in the densest controversies that lasted forever. But as it turns out, the New Year will definitely be happy for the man. While the entire controversy has brought out important questions like can the CBFC control what the public watches? And who has complete control of the creative freedom? The good news is that Padmavati has the green flag.
After all the uproar, while Censor clears Padmavati, here's the catch: CBFC (Censor Board of Film Certification) has asked the filmmaker to rename the film title!
The CBFC has recommended to the filmmakers that the film should be renamed "Padmavat." The name modification is suggested on the basis of the material that is attributed in the film and the creative source.
The examining committee, which came together on the 28th of December, has decided to award the film a U/A certification.
The other modifications that were suggested in the movie included disclaimers shunning the practice of Sati and making additions that discouraged the glorification of the violent ritual. Another interesting suggestion was to make appropriate changes in the song "Ghoomar" that would be more suitable to the character. Surprisingly, the Padmavati song Ghoomar has already had many fans fawning over the music and the choreography. Apart from all these alterations, the film has undergone 26 cuts. The U/A certificate will be awarded after all the necessary modifications have been made.
The CBFC had formed a special committee that congregated to go over the film. This was done after Sanjay Leela Bhansali had actively emailed noted historians to view the film. The committee includes the usual examining panel members, Chairman Prasoon Joshi, other CBFC officials, and a special advisory committee.
The members of the special advisory committee include Shri Arvind Singh, Prof. KK Singh, Dr. Chandramani Singh, hailing from various parts of Rajasthan. They offered their knowledge and expertise, which assisted the CBFC in reaching this decision.
It is yet to be known if the Padmavati team are willing to change the film's name to Padmavat. But this move would definitely be a relief to them.
Finally, there is a reason for all film lovers to celebrate! The David versus Goliath battle is finally over!
